Maybe not the most artistic version but the pianistic prowess is jaw dropping. You’ll never hear a B flat Prelude like it!

I've just come across this recording by Marta Deyanova of the 24 Preludes - plus Op 3/2 - on Nimbus Records 1987. Haven't listened to it for some time; must have another listen soon.

Our reaction exactly, hearing the excerpts chosen by Lucy Parham - 24/96 download from Presto @ £5.82 was a no-brainer, as they say. Great pianism in exemplary sound.

I cannot resist dropping in to say how much I like the Op. 23 set. Like many pianists of my ability I started in my teens with the easiest the gorgeous E flat major one.
After a previous BAL I bought the Shelley. I met him in my schooldays. What a waste I just couldn't make any conversation. It has become some of my favourite listening.

The Eflat isn’t that easy - got to be at least grade 7 and with the left hand difficulties really grade 8 . It poses so many musical problems in terms of phrasing, dynamics , balance and voicing that a good performance demands a really high level of technical skill. The famous C# minor was a grade 8 piece . I would argue it’s easier !
You are right though it is a lovely piece.

I too, really liked the extracts played - somewhat surprisingly; maybe I don't associate Shelley with Rachmaninov! I am very tempted to take the plunge.

He did the complete works for Hyperion - I regret not having bought the box set which is now sadly unavailable.
