This is required listening. Previn's last performance of the symphony with the LSO, moving and touched with greatness.

I have a massive affection for this Symphony - overall preferring the uncut to the cut but the Leningrad/Sanderling with minor cuts is one I return to again and again. Some of the earlier American very cut versions though, do have massive energy - Mitropoulos, Rodzinski, Steinberg, Wallenstein - all fun but I do like a long lingering version. Then there are the authentic? Russians - Svetlanov, Rozhdestvensky, Temirkanov conducting Russian and British orchestras!

I don't know much of Rachmaninov's 'pianoless' symphonic work either, so picked one up to do a bit of exploration.
