Interesting. I have a few of those Dutoit/OSM recordings but haven't listened in years, all Berlioz, I think. Which reminds me, the Paray Symphony Fantastique is superb!

Yes it iis - I must do a comparison of SFs with PCO/Argenta. Dutoit’s Daphnis is excellent!

I’m glad to have found it in the first Mercury box. It will accompany me on tomorrow’s drive across southern England from Cornwall to East Kent.

If it’s anything like my last trip from West Devon to East Dorset I’d take the Ring Cycle as a backup

Yeah but, no but, Dutoit didn't quite make the cut in the (relatively) recent BaL on D & C from Jeremy Sams. All a bit glib (but I find Dutoit to be a bit of a plodster so I'm a bit biased against him).

[Hostly footnote: I’m wondering whether the general Parayphile posts here wouldn’t be be best moved over to a specific thread - does one currently exist devoted to Paray, does anyone know? I haven’t got time to search just now]
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
