I agree about the latter - Immerseel and Schroder are recorded in the most beautiful acoustic (to my ears, anyway).

Currently greatly enjoying 'Sonatina Luatica' Kreutzer offering. Such beautifully crafted fiery playing from both Aurelia Vişovan and Lina Tur Bonet.

I've been going back to the Visovan/Bonet too. The control of tone, colour and line through the Variations is remarkable, isn't it? Then the finale alive with fantasy, passion and virtuosic play. We've been here before, but never quite like this....

Revisiting it now for the first time since the Winter, it begins to seem as essential and unavoidable a modern classic as Schiff's Brahms Concertos... one that places earlier recordings in a new critical perspective, that simply has to heard by anyone enamoured of this incredible music....

(And c/w you get an Op.96 of extraordinary range, power and beauty...)

Jayne, I’ve bookmarked it for a listen on your recommendation. But I can’t see it’s been reviewed in G or B - how did you come by it?

QOBUZ. Try searching for "beethoven sonatina lunitica".

Just by finding it in Discover /New Releases on Qobuz/Audirvana last November.... each Thursday Night/Friday I scan through, favouritise the most promising to try out.....(still haven't got around to that CMW Schubert 5/Haydn 99, but lets not get off track here)...

The Bertsche copy fortepiano and the 1724 Tononi were a great attraction in this repertoire, as ever....

The lack of reviews is strange..... if anyone finds one - let us know here....

(search "sonata lunatica" or either of the artist's names etc etc...)

I had no trouble finding it on Qobuz, but that wasn’t my question.

It was a response to one possible interpretation of your question, and it was, indeed, QOBUZ that alerted jlw to the release. I noted jlw's string recommendation last November but did not follow up on it until reminded by her recent posts regarding it.

My only recording is by Alan Loveday and Leonard Cassini issued by Fidelio at 12/6d in 1963 and unaccountably unlisted. Coupled with the Spring sonata it is delightful in every way.

I agree that Mullova/Bezuidenhout is an outstanding recording and is my go to choice for these sonatas. In recent months Presto has listed Faust/Melnikov as "out of stock at the UK distributor", which is a pity as I would like to add it to my collection. I also have Schneiderhahn/Seeman which I bought cheaply a few years ago and is in a traditional Viennese style (although unfortunately they do not take the first movement repeat) and Menuhin/Kempff on LP.

Dodax's web site is listing Faust/Melnikov as in stock - £25.53 including delivery. I know Dodax's delivery times aren't great but most of my orders from them have been arriving within a couple of weeks recently.
