Amazing how the record companies keep misdescribing the male voices..
    .

Hardly surprising when a baritone is hovering (Hoovering) around in the stratosphere. Not to mention the tenor. It's the effect CO wanted, of course.

I agree it was an excellent BAL. Good to have a few identical passages compared from different recordings, something that seems to have been missing in the recent fad for a 'start-to-finish-in-order' presentation.

      Warum?
Can’t complain about those two recordings.

I listened to this today . Glad to be reminded how awful a piece it is - the roasted swan piece particularly ghastly .

I am happy to rely on my memory to confirm a similar response.

More or less ghastly than Hindemith's 'Schwanendreher'?

Well it isn't meant to sound 'lovely'.

Indeed, and to sing also. I can't say it's a work I feel the need to listen to often but surely it's Gebrauchsmusik that fulfils its brief a lot better than many other examples.

Maybe but it makes me feel nauseous - not only its associations but the music itself - In Trutina , ostensibly the best of it , sounds like musical saccharine even when sung by Popp or Janowitz.

Well it is meant to be sweet and seductive just as Lucia Popp sings it. As ever chacun ...

I know and nobody could do a better job of it - but I find the piece sickly.

I listened to it this morning and had to listen to Lucia Popp singing the Song of the Moon afterwards to wash away the taste.

Sadly the Song to the moon has similarly been spoiled for me by over exposure, in this case ClassicFM's endless playing of Renée Fleming's sickly singing.
