Or is it the mic ?

You took the very words out of my keyboard!

Don't forget the ears and the brain they connect with.

I’ve done dozens of zoom / FaceTime hookups and managed to get better sound than this even just using the Mac mic (which is grim) . A £50 gaming mic transforms things . “It’s almost like they are in the room” .
I think it’s an acoustic problem as the mic is offering some frequency width but it’s so coloured. Pity because the content is good...

For once in my life, I welcome AMcG’s interjections. It’s as though a more knowledgeable version of Elizabeth Alker were doing the review, with extra gushing and excessive use of the pronouns “I” and “me”.

I presume the leader for the Bernstein/NYPO's recording would have been John Corligniano.

I love the concerto but there’s a bit of the first movement which always reminds me of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.

The reviewer sounds like she is on a 1960s phone line !

                  No Alexeev yet .

Possibly - but she knows what she’s talking about I (sorry) think.

Eugene List’s recording sadly is out of the catalogue even as a download according to Presto. Though there are cheap second hand copies of the RCA navigator CD on Amazon . Shame considering his history with the First Concerto.

I don’t agree with her assessment of the second movement . I think Lenny is great here and Melnikov sounded very pretentious.

Thanks for the reminder. The LP manifestation of the piano concertos on this CD was the first recording of them I bought, way back in my mid-teens. Just ordered that Navigator CD as a memento.

Extraordinary the range of pianistic approaches . What a player LB was ...wish he’d recorded more...

Not surprised Giltburg was chosen . I heard him play the DSCH concerto for Piano and Trumpet (with Alison Balsom) in Plymouth . His playing of the notorious stride section was absolutely incredible. He’s also just released a fine late Beethoven CD.

I've been listening to BaL while chopping carrots for soup - not a piece I really know, but should do

Coincidentally, I wonder where Through the Night's UK unbroadcast "05:43 Dmitry Shostakovich; Piano Concerto No 2 in F major, Op 102; Patrik Jablonski (piano), Polish Radio Orchestra of Warsaw, Wojciech Rajski (conductor)" would be on the list?
Is it the one on Eine Alpensinfonie's list?
