The Polar Bear is a very reputable 3rd party seller on Amazon - he used to have a bricks and mortar shop which I visited often in Leeds in the early days of my building a collection. Always reliable and fast!

Just starting on Hanover Band/Goodman.... pretty startling, all-laid-bare Abbey Road sound, (not a trace of harshness though), more obviously chamber-scale, period-instrument than JEG...(see Listening thread...)....

Having decided that I really do need to get the JEG set, now I’m being sidetracked into Duasgaard distraction, with the additional temptation of those lovely covers.

I must admit that I partly went for Dausgaard, not JEG, for non-musical reasons. No regrets.

Loved the Harnoncourt 3 and 4 recording . I struggle withNH in a lot of repertoire but his Schumann I have a great deal of time for especially the Paradis undo die Peri recording

Have you heard the Harnoncourt/Berlin Phil 1851 4th? (C/w Schubert 4). It's terrific, one of his best records (see above) - you owe it to yourself...

The Furtwangler Lucerne Festival account has reappeared in that Audite set with the terrific Eroica I referred to in the Furtwangler Eroica thread that has attracted so little interest . A blazing performance similar to but more exciting and on the edge of your seat I think than his classic studio account - a few blips on the sound in the early part of the third movement but irrelevant overall.

Knocks most accounts into a cocked hat.
