I hadn’t played the Columbia /Walter for a while - it never pales- just marvellous.

The first does seem to be the Mahler symphony to which Walter was most sympathetic. Apart from his earlier New York recording there's also a fascinating Testament remastering of a 1947 Albert Hall performance with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, part of a series of BBC Third Programme broadcasts of the nine completed symphonies.
