I very much agree with this recommendation. Had I been asked to enumerate the number of versions I seem to have accumulated over the years, I think that I would have been surprised to find that it seems to stand at 42 and rising. One version which I acquired very cheaply a couple of years ago and which, although a bit rough round the edges and rather drily recorded, has a real sense of hearing a probably-too-familiar work for the first time is that by Zoltan Kocsis. A polar opposite of what I imagine Karajan and the BPO might have done with it but well worth hearing.

I have found myself stuggling more and more with this work, starting, I think, from a Prom performance I was at a few years ago, the one where there was some Dutilleux on the programme, IIRC.
I have got the Kocsis lined up to try to shake me out of my bad ways, in a sort of kill or cure bid.

Well, for a start they only consider 9 of the 12 works deserving the name "Symphony". What about 'Titan', the source material for four movements of the 1st, Das Lied von der Erde and the draft of all five movements of a 10th? Then there's the order they put them in!

Then there's the disgusting promotion of Amazon as the place to buy them from.

BBC MM seems to be published by Immediate Media , which is presumably why they can promote buying through Amazon, and get themselves an affiliate fee for their trouble.

It would be nice to think that their licence to use the BBC brand, ( or whatever the arrangement is) might control such things, but clearly not.

The booklets are the not a problem as they are the same size as the sleeves but the back notes are more problematic and I keep them separately in a lager plastic box. The cardboard sleeves with the stuck in trays are more of a problem as they take up more space. The other problem of relieve CDs of the jewel cases is locating them and I’m still working on that!

Ooh, that's an easy one to answer! It's those 4 bars in the last movement: the final recap of the main theme, but the violas, cellos and basses haven’t noticed the recap starting, and are still grinding away on that ostinato from the dominant preparation just before.
