Well, that must be it. Actually I think a Mahler cycle with multiple Orchestras would be of more interest than a Beethoven cycle....sorry L.v.B., I know it’s your Birthday Year...

Pleased it’s not Ed Seckerson for a Mahler symphony.

I guess the Jurowski version wouldn’t be the biggest surprise given the South Bank connection.

Jansons also made a Concertgebouw recording.

I now have Mackerras, which I'm pleased to see has an honourable mention from makropulos.

PS: And the BBC MM CD (Volume 8, Number 9): BBCSO/Manfred Honeck (live at the RFH, 11 February 1998).
Apparently, depending on the source, there is a cut of either 24 or 16 bars in the finale! why on earth would any conductor do such a thing?????

Are you talking Mackerras or Horneck?
Kletzki did it in both of his recordings!

This was in reply to my mentioning that I hadn't known that there was a cut in the Kletzki recording I used to have on LP.

As Pulcinella mentions, it's in reply to his post re. Kletzki, and according to an article I looked at earlier it states that some critics have identified the cut as being of 24 or 16 bars; just to be clear. Kletzki did, indeed make the cut in both his recordings; Israel Phil and Wiener Phil...

Forgot about that one! Thanks for the reminder. And yes, I think it must be the same one that came out on DVD (though with Tennstedt, I always have to dive into the small print to check).

There are, in fact, four Tennstedt versions: LPO (studio, 1977 EMI), LPO (live, 1990 BBC Legends), LPO (live, 1985 LPO label) and Chicago SO (live, 1990 EMI).
Thanks for clarifying this! Seems I'm missing one of them...

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Incidentally, I've also got an off-air recording of Mackerras's Prom performance with the Czech Phil in 1998. (Send me a private message if it's of any interest).

41 plus versions of one work. That's amazing!
