There were 261 versions that didn’t get a mention. It’s absurd to use the word ‘shameful’ about a single case, frankly far less famous in this context than the ones she did compare.

Fair comment, though I suppose the abuse is slightly eased by the reletivley low audio quality (128kbps aac seems to be standard on Youtube).

The only versions I can find on CD appear to be second hand, and quite expensive. Can you suggest the best place to find it on CD?
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Indeed. The Columbia Symphony (movie pick-up) Orchestra recording is currently only available new as a download (96/24 via Qobuz et al).

That Walter Mahler 1 that I quoted as being £27 on Amazon is now £34 .00! Either I wasn’t concentrating - possible as Xmas plans are complicating for reasons you can guess- or this is an example of dynamic pricing . All those people who listened to the review are now searching for it and driving up the price ...

The Walter is available in the big Walter box. I had also bought a BlueSpec version from Japan that sounds the same, I suspect an identical remaster

Cheaper to buy a Qobuz subscription...

Yes if you put together that with the boxed set recommendations on the Bruckner and Beethoven threads you are pretty much up to the annual sub

If you can't download from Qobuz - haven't looked - and want to own it can be download from Presto (including Hi-Res) but with no booklet (really!).

I really can't buy complete output box sets any more. I'll listen online at whatever quality is best available and decide what to do in January. On a quick look, physical single discs of the remaster also entail import from Japan and the extra import VAT/handling fees?

On Qubuz looks like it’s 14.99 hi res , 12.99 CD ; with a further thirty percent discount on studio sublime for the hi res option

Bruno Walter was an excellent choice! Personally, I prefer his NYPhil performance, but that definitely is in 'historic' sound, and the Columbia SO one is a great performance. This BAL was a tough challenge and I thought GM did a very good job with it.

The wonderful Walter is also on Spotify and sounds good despite its age.
