Streaming may have some pretty fundamental problems (which need to be resolved) relating to proper financial compensation to artists, but it’s an absolute boon to the listener. I’m mot interested in streaming below CD quality (except perhaps in the car) but with Qobuz, I’m getting that as a minimum, and high res on most newer stuff. Last year I had my CD collection ‘digitised’ and now, using a very clever service called Roon, can call up Qobuz versions, or those in my own library, can listen to whatever I choose selected from the iPad on my sofa. Roon also provides programme notes on a lot of things, and Qobuz usually (but not always) gives access to booklets. I don’t see much further point in downloading, except for Hyperion and Linn who have been stand-outs against streaming (until recently - Linn stuff is coming on Qobuz soon).

CDs uniquely for me, basically because even though I am at the relatively tender age of 61, I am completely baffled by all the terms and technology used by all you clever fellow members!
That's not to say I am against new technology, but before launching myself into any of it, I need some sort of idiots' guide to help me begin. Is there such a book or website, a sort of 'Downloading and Streaming for Dummies'?
Were I to master the skills, I still really wonder if I would be as drawn to a list of works on a computer screen...call me old-fashioned, but when I physically see the spines of CDs on shelves in front of me, I am immediately attracted to try them.

Perhaps ##20 and 21 could also be included in cloughie's new thread on listening preferences.

And delete this one!

Can reviewers not be asked to recommend at least one CD version (not in a jumbo box!) even if their top recommendation is a download? My current version is Hough/Takácz but I may also now be interested in a period instrument version (I note Jayne's comments above and will have to investigate availability).
