I bet everybody on here has this in their collection

Yes, it's fine recording. A real gem.

Isn’t the Emerson one with Fleisher (I have it) rather than Pressler?

Pressler also recorded it with the Emersons in 1996 (I think) coupled with the Piano Quartet

My first thought was "Not again!", then I realised it hasn't been covered by BaL since 1999 (when Eschenbach/Amadeus was 1st choice). Although it was also done in 1992 (Serkin/Budapest; with Frankl/Lindsays as cassette(!) choice).

Can it really be true that I have only one recording of this great work? And that a rather poor quality Melodiya LP by Richter and the Borodin Quartet.

                Fabulous performance though!

My greatest memory of it live was the Lindsays with Peter Frankl in the small hall at Blackheath. 1989?

Certainly interested in finding a more modern recording!
I love that Rubinstein recording (terrific-value box)

Actually, I think I have that cassette somewhere, but nothing to play it on.

Combined radio/CD player/cassette player sets can regularly be purchased in charity shops for just a few pounds, and will (or should - check for the label) have been officially tested and certified as safe and operational. I have plenty of audio cassettes which I quite often listen to - especially the jazz compilations which I recorded back in the 70s and 80s.

Ah yes, what a bargain box! I've gone for that, thanks.

                          - it is one of the best-value bargains around: superb performances and (with the exception of the orchestral sound in the 1st Piano Concerto) recordings.

Tuesday's fine performance of the Brahms Piano Quintet by Stephen Hough and the Castalian Quartet can be seen via the Wigmore Hall's streaming service.

BBC web site now says that today's BaL will be Schumann Piano Concerto chosen by Lucy Parham. As she covered this in the last series, maybe she's been ill & they're repeating it?

Andrew just announced this. Get well soon, Lucy.
