That does genuinely shock me. Any reason given apart from those two, very brief editing glitches?

    Despite those problems...
    "Clearly a noteworthy project.....
...A recording that would, on its own terms, demand consideration among the best of the rest..."
David Threasher, Gramophone 9/2020, a very thoughtful and detailed review...(although he doesn't specify which others he had in mind..)

So just seek it out and give it a listen.... I'd be intrigued to hear any other views on it...

No reason at all was given. Just... “not really a contender“

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Does anybody else out there have the Philips John Eliot Gardiner DVD which also includes the Requiem?

I don’t have the Philips DVD, but I do have an off-air DVD recording I made when they were shown on BBC4 in the early 2000s; as I recall the programme was titled Mozart in Barcelona. Both performances are very good, and well worth seeking out.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Was the Langree recording with Natalie Dessay and Veronique Gens given a mention - I really like it!

Just listened to it...what a strangely dismissive thing to say about such an important conductor.

Well, the performance is superb as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not usually a big fan of Minkowski. Those edits though really oughtn't to have got through to the release.

I have not listened to it. Are they the sort of errors one might repair by ripping and opening in a DAW?

As I previously mentioned, you can view it on YouTube.

As long as you don't mind your Requiem in 7 parts!

Some of which bear little direct relation to Mozart.

                            I hadn't viewed the requiem.

                            Consider it a preview.

Searching for something quite different, I have just uncovered my DVD of the MC/EBS/JEG performances of K626 and K427. Erik Smith's programme notes for the DVD go into reasonable detail on what, of the Requiem, was composed by Mozart, what by Eybler, what by Sussmayr, what was orchestrated by Stadler and what of Sussmayr's contribution was removed by JEG in the version performed and recorded for this DVD. That is what I was referring to by "bear little direct relation to Mozart". I am currently listening to the Alois Schmitt and JEG completion of K427 from that same DVD.

By the way, the DVD is still available, at a price, from amazon.co.uk but you have to search for Mozart Requiem Gardiner. Including the Mass in C Minor in your search will fail to find it. Easier still, just search for B000B8ISPU there. Oh, and the DVD has both stereo LPCM and DTS surround options for the audio.

Having never bought a Presto CD, are these playable on any CD player and do they have the same booklet/ texts/ translations as the originals?
I have bought some Prestos before. The CDs are fine and the booklets are complete but there's definitely a difference in print finish on some of their booklets - particularly on things like Philips CDs with the reflective Philips Classics logo - if that bothers you.
