Mozart Mass thread for 26 Sept - our 45th wedding anniversary by the way - seems to have vanished.

Hope you have a great day on Saturday Gurney. That is quite a milestone.

I’m sure Alpie will get things sorted and this thread heading amended when he gets a moment
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I think he should have been PMd by AMcG to clarify - after all he does to advertise BaL!

Come to think of it, I can resolve the title issue...

I'm looking forward to this one as some, small, compensation for missing my holiday to Germany this year. Sorry all you HIPPsters, but it's Sawallisch and Kubelik (BRSO) for me.

I wonder whether OAE have recorded or intend to record it with Andras Schiff? What had happened to their plans to record the Brahms Piano Concertos, come to that.

Checked which CDs are on my shelf. I have some good versions in conductor boxes: Tennstedt/BPO, Karajan/BPO, Bernstein/NYPO, also Toscanini on the complete RCA. I couldn't remember it and have just listened - a strong performance in admittedly not so great 1949 sound.

Last time's BaL first choice from Piers Burton-Page in 2006 was John Eliot Gardiner/Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique with "Budget Choice": London Philharmonic Orchestra, Kurt Masur on Warner Apex. I have both those + Norrington and have since also acquired the exhilarating "urtext" version with Frank Beermann and the Robert Schumann Philharmonie, Chemnitz from 2009 on cpo, so am probably not in line for a new purchase but will certainly listen with interest.

Hanover Band/Goodman and Tonhalle Zürich/Zinman are not to be baulked at, either.

I have the Dausgaard that is my go to, but I had pulled the Szell off the shelves a week ago and really enjoyed it. The 3 lp set of all the symphonies was an ubiquitous site years ago, every store that sold classical records would have it and now every resale shop does as well. Bit sad therefore to see it only available as a download...

This is a superb 3rd, in a superb cycle. Near the other end of the style-scale, I very much like Klemper in this.

There was a really good Rhenish - LSO Fruhbeck de Burgos coupled with Mendelssohn MND Ov on a Decca LP - never to my knowledge ever appeared on CD - a good one for Eloquence methinks.
