How about us here..... could we do it independently, listeners offering reviews of their favourites...?
If you have a streaming service, choose a new one against a familiar one....

**It's not that I don't know how to use Skype, but I didn't know before this emergency that different devices even from the same manufacturer give different GUIs. The Skype I have on the s/h iPhone 5 I bought recently, which ought to be very useful as the gadget is so easy to manoeuvre, is quite different from the Skype on my iPad Pro. Trying hastily to get these tools on Android phones reveals that these also have quirks, and some don't even have all the apps one might hope for.
OTOH one might expect a professional broadcasting organisation to have most of the staff and even "visitors" genned up on the different software tools in order to make things possible. "might" at least.

On the other hand I didn’t hear the Dumky broadcast so that will come up fresh.

BaL 3.10.20 - Schumann: Symphony no. 3 "Rhenish"
9.30 Building a Library
Marina Frolova-Walker chooses her favourite recording of Schumann's Symphony No 3 in E flat major, Op 97, nicknamed the 'Rhenish'.
In the autumn of 1850, Schumann moved to the Rhineland to take up the position of municipal music director in Düsseldorf. He composed his Third Symphony quickly in the November and filled the score with the impressions of his new home, stating that the symphony “perhaps reflects something of Rhenish life here and there”. The symphony has five movements including a fourth movement, the cathedral movement, that was marked by Schumann 'in the character of the accompaniment to a solemn ceremony', and was inspired by his visit to Cologne Cathedral.

As a Schumann obsessive, Schumann-saturated these last few years through any number of astounding releases.... I tend more toward the Violin Sonatas and Chamber Music now, but with the Rhenish?
If I picked one off the shelf today.....
HIPPs-moderne: COE/Harnoncourt, ScotCO/Ticciati, COE/YNS, SwedCO/Dausgaard....
HIPPs-ancien: ORR/JEG, Hanover Band/Goodman.....
"How happy could I be with either, Were t'other dear charmer away!"
Etc...
Full SO? Hmmm....very hmmm...
Jury still out on: LSO/JEG. (Pins you to the chair....but SACD sound doesn't hurt....)....
Ed. Mahler: LGO/Chailly. Bergen SO/Ceccato..
....when dinosaurs ruled the Earth: BRSO/Kubelik.Last edited by jayne lee wilson; 21-09-20, 17:22.
