It also sounds as if they’ve decided that the only way to do a remote twofer is to script it.

The Bychcov sounds excellent . It’s £11.23 on Amazon which I think is less than I paid for the Solti back in the 70’s !

I think you can get it on Amazon for even less. I’ve not listened to my Solti vinyls (or for that matter my Levine CDs) since I bought it.

I think I’ve listened to the Solti end to end about 3 times. But for some bizarre reason I’ve played the first LP side dozens of times. So when I saw it live for the first time in the 80’s , the polonaise , duel , Lensky aria and thrilling conclusion came as some thing of a surprise to me. The very definition of being stuck in a groove . I had a similar habit with the Karajan Gotterdamerung. The Act 1 duet started on a side I would run thru to the end of the Rhine journey and then depress the tone arm lever.

I’m glad I’m not the only one!

I wonder if it’s the same vinyl Trovatore as the one I’ve never played at all.

Seriously? - that is uncanny . This is the Leontyne Price / Obratsova version . Thing is I had a bit of a snobbish attitude to Verdi - only really liked Otello, Falstaff , then Don Carlos, then Simon Boccangera. Slowly working My way back till I heard Attila last week on R3 and really rather enjoyed it. Also the vinyl box was for years hidden away on a lip of the bookcase . Just found it cost £16.00 back in the 80’s - you’d never get a cast that good now.

Try Ballo - my favourite of the mid-period Verdis.

I heard Trovatore in the stunning Roman theatre at the Chorégies d'Orange and decided I never needed to hear it again.

Btw, the BBC web site lists the DVD Recommendation as Gergiev with Netrebko whereas NB's recommendation was in fact for Gergiev's 2007 staging with Fleming. Personally, I suspect the Netrebko might be more interesting visually given that the production was directed by Deborah Warner.

It’s pretty hard checking that yourself On headphones and “talking “ guests into a reasonable acoustic remotely is hard . I think Andrew M still presents from BH , I’ve heard a lot of radio presenters now have a pretty professional setup at home using Lucie live (an app based tablet system ) complete with clean feed of the remote studio output (essentially the music minus themselves ) and talkback from both producer (also at home ) and studio manager . I have the Solti - one of the first vinyl opera sets I bought.
The Solti was Modern Recording Choice last time out in May 94. Khaikin was First Choice - back in the days when BaL routinely used to select mono recordings as first choice library recommendations.
