I think the new Adam Fischer recording was the winner.

It was indeed, I have the favoured Norrington and Zinman versions and I bought the Fischer as a very cheap download, it's very good but overall I prefer the Zinman cycle.

BBM2 - do you have Abbado's live Rome cycle on DG ? I assume so - I think the First from that excellent set is very good .

I must dig out my cassette of the LSO/Abbado broadcast on Radio 3, back in the '80s. Long before Jonathan Del Mar got to work on editing the Urtext but I recall really taking to it at the time.

Is there any reason given, or sensible justification - sorry for the almost, but not quite, tautology!

If they insist reviewer plus McGregor, I find it implausible they cannot do it. If R4 "Loose Ends" multi interviewer multi guests can be done, so could BAL. Particularly with a lead time from the repeat weeks.
Andrew won't be presenting next week - he's where the action is - Wigmore Hall Lock down Live.

No he just said they were not commissioned to make it that way.

I remember listening to that cycle as a teenager and being thrilled by it and I wish I had recorded it . Didn’t Pollini play the piano concertos too ?

I shouldn't have listened to that BAL again. I don't think I bought the Fischer box after hearing it last time - though I did get a few others, including Harnoncourt COE - so looks as though I'll have to order it now. I guess that Amazon has the best price, plus I could listen before the CDs arrive. Also - I don't really do downloads - I know that some like them - but do Naxos only do CD quality now, or are there any SACDs? If there's only a marginal difference in pricing I usually buy the SACD/CD hybrid, or the sets with Blu Ray + CDs or SACDs.

Indeed he did, and I have them on Dolby B cassettes too. (IIRC they were recorded onto a machine with a Dolby B calibration facility, so the noise reduction should be reasonably effective). They are on a rather long list of cassettes to be 'digitized'. That list has a rather low priority on my 'to do' list.
