    Thanks for that.

I've update this, along with a number of extra recordings.

I think it cost me less than a tenner back in 2012

EDIT - on looking again, I see it is a 4 CD set - a foursome rather than a threesome...

      .
I also enjoy the Nepomuk Forelle from that set. I've just got another fortepiano version via the excellent Anima Eterna/Jos van Immerseel Schubertiade set recorded in the great acoustics of the Bruges Concertgebouw. For many years my only recording was Curzon/Vienna on LP.

Thank you Alpie, again for your sterling work with this. I have this work as well but I hope this BaL will be a good one. More ebb and flow perhaps?

Just listened again to Lubin and the AAM chamber ensemble. Steven Lubin is terrific and his Conrad Graf copy from c. 1824 is ideal.

But the leader of the strings, Simon Standage, such an important role, seems far too Plain Jane.

I'll re-listen to the Nepomuks later.

I tend to think of download only as equivalent to a deletion in the days when downloads were not available and it seems that many fine recordings of this piece have become download only. I hope that DON will be able to discuss a fair number of these recordings and I am sure that period instrument versions will get a good look-in.
I've just splashed out 2,89€ on the single disc so it had better be good! Joking apart, stellar recommendations from our local HiPPexpertistos are good enough for me. Maybe I might even steel myself to listen to DON - erudite and informative, no doubt, but I wish he would wear his learning a bit more lightly.

The Lubin was period instrument choice last time out in Jan 1999. 1st choice was Brendel & the Clevelands; 2nd choice was Schiff & the Hagens.

BTW I much prefer the Nepomuk performance to the Lubin/AAM, which for me has an antiquarian feel to it.

And with the bonus of all those other quintets - especially Hummel op 87.

Yes, I quite agree - an exceptional set which must be had!

Has anyone noticed that AMcG is referring to DON as ‘Norris’. Is this a standard way of addressing him, or are they back at prep school?

Yes they always seem to do this with DON even though he went to Grammar School .

I just wish McGregor would stop interrupting Norris.

My problem with this final choice (Hausmusik - period instruments ) is not the playing, nor the flat piano sound , but the fact that it appears to have been recorded in a bathroom..good BAL though .

I agree, I have this recording and I don't enjoy the sound either. Because of this I'm amazed it is considered worthy of inclusion.
