This chap knows his onions. I know there will be resentment here that only ten versions are being considered, but it’s clear he knows the entire field.

He's savvy enough to know, that when you are lucky enough to have such a good communicator as Jonathan Cross around, you keep mum. JC articulate, relaxed and illuminating.

I wonder if the BaL team could be persuaded to publish (in advance!) the list of recordings being considered (ten in this case, I think the reviewer said)?
            Worth lobbying for?

The Philharmonia/Salonen version (which appears as download only in Alpie's list) appears to be still available new in this box set:

                  PS: Bryn got there first.

Or as a single issue here (but much better value to get the box set, though there are cheaper used offers with different couplings).

An excellent set, all-round, too. It has gone up a few £ since I got it in October 2017 but it's still very much a bargain at a little over £3 a disc (including p&p from over the Pond). Might be worth checking other vendors, including alternative European Amazon sites.

Ah, under £20 (including p&p) if ordered direct from amazon.com. As the price of the set itself is under £15 (£13.47 at the current exchange rate), there should be no import duty to pay.

Good to see Stravinsky/Columbia Symphony Orchestra (1960) as one of the ten. After the very useful direct comparisons, and comments, I think I'll stick with it as my library choice. Although the others sounded great, I'm not sure I can justify another purchase given the excellence of the composer's own performance.

The reason we are restricted now to ten I imagine is that ten minutes of a BAL is no longer available for illustrations being taken up by Mr McGregor's entirely superfluous interventions.

Salonen? Good choice (and saves me money ) - and the box that Bryn and Pulcie refer to is superb.

I was worried about Boulez fans, in fact, anyone but fans of the composer himself, forming a dance troupe and sacrificing me in a gory fashion. But "the others sounded great" wasn't my most honest moment, so a blow by blow account to follow, .... and to hell with diplomacy...
