He says "Having just chosen my preferred recording of the suite for BBC Radio 3's BaL (Paavo Jarvi), there is no doubting this would have been a serious contender and at the very least an 'also recommended."

My electronic version has arrived, not the physical one yet.

I suspect the criterion for inclusion in BaL is that a recording has to be available at the moment of broadcast. The Oramo wasn’t, quite. It might have made sense to delay the BaL by a couple of weeks, but where would this end?

I don’t that is a criterion unless it has changed as I am sure forthcoming releases have been included in the past!

- companies used to send Reviewers advance copies of recordings about to be BaL-ed to the BBC.

"Is", now equals "was"; not bought by me, though, as I downloaded it from Chandos a couple of weeks ago. Really good recording quality (Watford Colosseum); fine orchestral playing - and a good coupling. As good as Paavo Järvi.

Anyway, very fine musicianship from all concerned. Absolutely beautiful solo playing especially Alison Teale in the wonderful Cor Anglais solo in the 'Swan of Tuonela'.

I'd recommend this disc to anyone interested in this wonderful music.

I'm flattered you think Chandos would entrust me with reviewing one of their discs. No, it's the latter scenario. (Mind you, I sometimes come across Review Discs in charity shops in Edinburgh).
