I thought he was going to go for Thea King or Julian Bliss until the very end. Also, I preferred King and Bliss in the clips. I have his "preferred period performance" From Wolfgang Meyer and the Mosaiques. This, for me, tied with Bliss & King for beauty of sound. So I'll keep it as my library choice (and hang quirkiness!)
Thanks ferney; I had a late night (my 16yo sang sop solo from Ein deutches Req in the cath)!
I hope she got the words a bit straighter than the choir's website listing - German grammarians look away now
Miserere mei, Deus – Allegri
Hear my prayer – Purcell
In the midst of life – Purcell Ich habt nun Traurigkeit – Brahms
Salvator mundi, Domine – Sheppard
O saviour of the world – Howells
Salvator mundi – Tallis
Versa est in luctum – Victoria
Versa est in luctum – Lobo
Lord, let me know mine end – Greene
Herr, lehre doch mich – Brahms
Lord, let me know mine end – Parry
Congratulations to her anyway
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I'm with you Mal and am happy with my Meyer/Mosaïques disc. Yet what a pleasure this BaL was - lots of directive comments as to what to listen for, invitations to agree or disagree, and well-made points on style and tempi. I learnt a lot.

Thank you, I'll pass them on.
[Apologies for hijacking yet another thread, but...]
OMG [you can tell I've just returned from the US]... the cathedral's marketing dept. is entirely responsible for this, certainly no member of the music staff! I'm relieved to see that it was correct in the programme, written by a Lay Vicar.
My unbiased comparative assessment out of 10 for last night's Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit was:
E. Schwartzkopf - 6
M. Price - 9
I Seefried - 10
Miss K - 11
... he did mention it and played an extract; he found it ponderously slow, and the Salomons a bit scrubby.
The period performance he recommended was the Wolfgang Meyer / Mosaiques.
.
I thought he was a bit uncharitable about the Salomons, calling them "weedy".
But what a shame that Antony Pay's AAM Chamber Ensemble was not even mentioned - this was a much-lauded disc when it first came out in the 80s. The couplings are excellent and now it's available for silly low prices on Amazon UK.
