I agree with you about the Kirkby/Hogwood version, ferney - it could be because it was the very first one I heard, and that initial experience often influences our choices. One should also give a mention of Jane Ryan playing the bass viol along with Hogwood at the organ.

- I think I'll wait until the Amazon prices have got a little less over-excited before buying it, though! (In spite of my preference for women's voices, I've gone for three different recordings - Deller ('70), Deller ('60), and Jacobs - all for a shave less than a tenner incl P&P: I want to get to know this work.)
