Half right - it was actually going to be for Clarinet, Piano ... and trumpet and bassoon!

Debussy 100 - honouring the missing sonatas by Lyle Chan, Resonate Magazine, 24 May 2018. Lyle Chan writes about his new series of Sonatas, inspired by Debussy's unfinished sonata series, a project interrupted by the composer's death in 1918. Chan's works are performed as part of ANAM's Debussy 100 concert series over the year, with the next concert on 29 June featuring the premiere of his Sonata no. 6, led by pianist Ian Munro.

(And the "Grand Finale" was going to have a Double Bass, too.)

      - which Boulez had in mind when writing the trio for oboe, horn and guitar in Domaines.

I listened to the Silverstein/MTT recording yesterday and found the violin playing a bit overwrought - I guess my tastes must have changed somewhat since the last time I heard it! Now listening to Capuçon/Chamayou which sounds marvellous. A lot of the extent recordings would be ruled out for me because I really need to have all three sonatas together.

I didn't know that - and you made me realize that I hadn't heard the Boulez in some time, so due for playing later.

        - long overdue, in fact: the CD was last played on 18th August 1999!!!

Can't recall offhand what the remaining one was going to be - Clarinet & Piano? (Something more "conventional", and the Clarinet is the obvious "missing candidate".)
Don't you just hate it when composers do this? How dare they snuff it!

Makes you wonder what that work would’ been like with that combination of instruments?

By sheer chance this recording was played in full on TTN at about 0340 this morning (17th), so listenable until mid July.
The mood can change several times in a few bars, which might annoy some listeners, but I love it!

Harpsichord, Oboe, and Horn - one to dream about...

Chung/Lupu are wonderful - I have a number of others but that remains at the top for me .

The live Menuhin/Britten on BBC Legends I imagine long since deleted is , however, very special.

I think you'll find it's on my list, available in a Legends box set.

Prompted me to give this endlessly fascinating, colourful and lively composition a spin. I think I last listen to it 6 months ago - that's more recently (but less precise) than your listen

So it is - who did Menuhin record it with for EMI referred to being in a big anniversary Debussy box on Warner ?

                            .

                            Jacques Février, 11-12 September 1974

( ... the performance with Benjamin Britten on BBC Legends was live, 27 June 1959; there was an earlier recording (also live) with Abram Makarov, 17 November 1945.)
