Does the appearance of Peter Schreier on the Firkusny et al version imply a vocalise or does he have talents that I am unaware of? I have the Suchárová-Weiser/ Vlach version of the quartets and am happy with it, but do not have a version of the quintet so this will interest me, especially if the quintet is the work to be reviewed. Giltburg/ Pavel Haas and Richter/ Borodinseem to be the ones that interest me most (I don't do downloads so Curzon and Schiff are out of contention for me).

I noticed that as I was compiling the list, but forgot to deal with it. Well spotted, CMP.

Well - I'm still waiting. I received an auto-reply, saying how much they appreciated "comments", but on closer inspection, I noticed that that was an old message. It makes me wonder whether they'll even read it, never mind respond to it. Maybe if I called myself Harold of Cirencester, requesting a follow-on piece for Essential Classics, they might wake up?

But maybe I should just wait until tomorrow's Record Review, when they may tell us what the next BaL will be.

Tell 'em you just had a coffee with Herbert von Karajan in Bognor Regis.

Seems more likely to me that the key is correct and the confusion is between quartet and quintet.

That's what I thought - after I'd sorted out the recordings for the quartet.

The Brilliant box is titled complete concertos; Rudolf Firkusny, Ruggiero Ricci, Zara Nelsova are the concerto soloists and I suspect the quartet is a filler with uncredited players. Does anyone have the box to confirm?

We will here undoubtedly when the Bal is broadcast. I hope Martha Argerich and co do well. I do have a penchant for her artistry.

Yes, he did say "quinter". I had to replay it several times.

                          Add Lindsays with Peter Frankl?

I saw them play it at Blackheath around 1989.

The Quintet was one of the first Chamber Music lps that I owned (Peter Serkin with Mischa Schneider and several of the young Guarneri Qt. Players) but I don’t think I know the Quartet at all. I might stream it this morning
