Building a Library: Jonathan Freeman-Attwood on Bruckner's motets. Bruckner wrote about 40 motets during his life, of which a handful have become staples of the choral repertory. Jonathan considers the most popular motets including Locus iste, Christus factus est, Tota pulchra es and Os justi.

Mentioned only because it's a version I have, as well as the St John's one (five motets as the filler to their Beethoven Mass in C), and I just checked to see if it was still available.

Ah yes, rarely played - I definitely won't be adding. Thank you for providing some right-think for this otherwise inveterate collector!

But they are all lovely pieces. Jochum's recordings of ten of the Motets are splendid, but for a different approach - and an extra five pieces - I second Stanf's recommendation of the St Brides/Jones NAXOS disc. (I've never played all the Motets on either recording through in one go - these, I find, are works that create greatest effect in batches of four or five at a time.)

They are indeed, but there is just so much music to listen to and I couldn't possibly justify another purchase for the few times it will be pulled from the shelves. I've got enough CDs that fill that category already! However, having been reminded of the Jochum disc I'll give it an outing in due course.

I have a recording of this, which is actually a 'filler' accompanying another composer's 'main work' but I cannot for the life of me remember who, or indeed what the main work is!!! so trying to find this CD is nigh-on impossible (filed by composer - 'main work' only)

Added to which, I remember enjoying the Motets immensely. I don't think I will ever find them, though.... but they are there somewhere on the shelves....
