There's a selection of motets as a 'filler' to the Te Deum on this single CD (Bavarian Radio Chorus/Jochum)
Bruckner: Te Deum and other works. Deutsche Grammophon: 4577432. Buy download online. Maria Stader, Sieglinde Wagner, Ernst Haefliger, Peter Lagger Chor der Deutschen Oper Berlin & Berliner Philharmoniker, Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Eugen Jochum

and also available in a 4CD boxed set of sacred works

Mentioned only because it's a version I have, as well as the St John's one (five motets as the filler to their Beethoven Mass in C), and I just checked to see if it was still available.

I only have Jochum's set of Bruckner's choral works, so I be looking forward to this one.

This one seems to have escaped the list - it was the one which introduced me to Bruckner motets, and it is a gorgeous recording:

...and Herreweghe also seems to be missing:

The recording pf the Motets from the St. Bride's Church Choir, Fleet Street directed by Robert Jones is excellent too!

Same here - but I doubt that I'll be adding. Although if a cheap download turns up ........?

Did Mathew Best and the Corydons do these?

Edit: Alpie goes to all that trouble and I didn't even read the list! Yes MB & the Cs did 'em!

Should be a reasonably priced download on Hyperion.

Ditto repeato! Jochum's set will do me fine for the rare occasions these motets get an airing.

Ah yes, rarely played - I definitely won't be adding. Thank you for providing some right-think for this otherwise inveterate collector!

But they are all lovely pieces. Jochum's recordings of ten of the Motets are splendid, but for a different approach - and an extra five pieces - I second Stanf's recommendation of the St Brides/Jones NAXOS disc. (I've never played all the Motets on either recording through in one go - these, I find, are works that create greatest effect in batches of four or five at a time.)

They are indeed, but there is just so much music to listen to and I couldn't possibly justify another purchase for the few times it will be pulled from the shelves. I've got enough CDs that fill that category already! However, having been reminded of the Jochum disc I'll give it an outing in due course.

What an excellent idea Beefy but i'll be getting the actual CD of it. What a pity they no longer exist.

I have a recording of this, which is actually a 'filler' accompanying another composer's 'main work' but I cannot for the life of me remember who, or indeed what the main work is!!! so trying to find this CD is nigh-on impossible (filed by composer - 'main work' only)

Added to which, I remember enjoying the Motets immensely. I don't think I will ever find them, though.... but they are there somewhere on the shelves....

How about the Mozart Requiem or Dvorak Mass in D?
