I usually very much enjoy Anna Picard's contributions, her acute thinking, lack of mannerism, ideal radio voice etc; but I suppose my reaction to this BAL bears out your comment - I fell asleep twice (Was conscious for the the run-in for the final three... and for that scream, which banished sleep )

Maybe the meagre response to this thread is further evidence - Dowland's Lachrimae has nearly twice the response a week ahead of transmission!

I did once see Il Tabarro - I have to say I found it gloomy and unmemorable. But that's just me and opera.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

An unfortunate side-effect of all those drugs you're on, BBM?

I suspect that has more to do with the fact that this thread was very late in arriving.

I missed the BAL but she chose a worthy winner . Splendid singing and conducting .

I suspect it might have had more interest if the BAL had been of the entire Trittico.

Thanks barbs. The reviewer certainly had a good grasp opf the opera. I am a fan of Pappano, so I didn't hesitate!

You might want to consider investing in the DVD or Blu-Ray of the ROH Richard Jones production, conducted by Pappano. It is a great show, and Suor Angelica, with Ermonela Jaho, is devastating.

It's a very slim package: I'm sure you can conceal or disguise it when it arrives!

I deliberately did not warn you about it only to find she played it in BAL and you referred to it above . I jumped out of my seat .
