Just noticed, there is another set which includes the Egarr recording of Op. 3, this one.

      Also available from MDT.

Thanks Bryn. I did look on Qobuz first, but couldn't see it.

The CDs in post #47 look better value, but I'm not sure I want this Op3 anyway. What I heard on the BaL didn't do a lot for me, I'm afraid.

I didn't hear the programme so I don't know which bits they chose, but I can assure you having listened all through many times that you wouldn't regret buying it.

I'll give it a listen. To be honest, I'm really enjoying the Iona Brown, Academy Of St. Martin In The Fields.

I can assure you, Beefy, you will not be disappointed with the Op.3 set. Especially therecommended one. I rather like RE and the AAM.

Me too. I first heard Iona Brown playing Brahms' Violin Concerto in Sheffield in the late '60s. It was a truly dreadful performance, so when I.B. became better known, I was very surprised. Clearly I experienced what I presume was a very rare off-day. A very fine musician.

The extracts from the Brown ASMF struck me as far more appealing than the other Modern Instrument recordings, and not a few of the HIPP offerings.

(I also heard IB Live, in the mid '70s - but I can't remember what she was playing! I do remember that I thought it was very good - and that the adults sitting nearby thought that reading "I own a brown Violin" from the programme was hilarious.)

She is clearly an excellent musician and must've had an off-day, as you say.

Having listened to op 3 a fair bit over the last week or so, I think I'm preferring them to the Op 6. That never was the way with me before. I wonder why I'm preferring them.

A bit like "I'm afraid old Campoli will now play the violin", the reason he reputedly stopped using his first name.

                            - I'd not heard that one, mike; and it took me a couple of seconds!

                                Yes, possibly.
