        .
It (all 21 CDs) arrived at lunchtime, from I know not where (but, given the speed of delivery, Dunfermlinenza rather than the somewhat more attractive Piacenza). I'm looking forward to exploring it further - I think that the only duplications are the DSCH symphonies.

Mine is still showing "La spedizione verrà eseguita a breve". Fond memories of Piacenza. Attended a wonderful concert of late Beethoven played by Quartetto Italiano at the town hall there while visiting my girlfriend of the time.

I cannot really understand the hatred HS and others have for the Symphonic Variations . Have been enjoying the Gieseking/Karajan account this morning .

On first reading this sentence, I thought you were suggesting personal "hatred of HS and others", rather than the (intended) work itself.

I hope I have now removed any ambiguity . Anyway, hurrah for the Symphonic Variations .

Having stopped off for a while at the Amazon distribution centre in Gidy (nr. Orléans), the Franck et al box is making its way onward.

Homer's Odyssey's got nothing on this, Bryn!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

... mine seems to have had a less exciting itinerary - Piacenza, Weybridge, Hayes - arrived Shepherd's Bush 29 September...
