I was going to ask, why link Britten and Tippett, HS (or even mention Tippett), two utterly different composers?
How much conducting did Hans Richter-Haaser do? When I saw him in 1972 he was so stout that his embonpoint was pressed against the piano and his arms were at full stretch to reach the keyboard. I read that his technique suffered during the war while he was away from the piano being a German anti-aircraft gunner, but that he recovered it afterwards.
