Wait until you listen to it.

(why does the time of the post say 07.32 when it is 06.32?)

I missed the first quarter hour, but was Boulez really not mentioned?

Daylight saving started today in the US, so perhaps a temporary glitch.

The agenda on BaL nowadays seems to be to reject:

                        A) any recording that is not digital

                        B) any recording that is not HIPP (if considering an appropriate work)

                        C) any recording made my Herbert von Karajan

I wouldn't mind betting that contributors have had such conditions attached since Richard Osborne chose the Mitropolous 1951 recording of Schoenberg's Pelleas und Melisande a year or two ago.

The Boulez (and, for that matter, my beloved Kubelik set) were never going to get a mention let alone a recommendation. A great recording is still a great recording and to dismiss them without so much as a mention renders the whole exercise rather pointless in my view.

Err ... what about Elgar's Falstaff. That was Barbirolli. And I'm pretty sure that Zubin Mehta's Girl of the Golden West pre-dates DG using digital technology. While I get the general point, I don't think that the BBC constrains its BaL reviewers. I shall ask the one whom I know the next time I see him.

Everyryhing goes in fashions. We delude ourselves if we think it does not. Anyway, whatever, I'm enjoying (part of) Gurrelieder right now whoever's conducting/playing/singing/speaking it.

Yes. The awakening of the earth in Spring is magnificent and new to me.

But then it is by definition new every time it happens.
