"I have one you can borrow?"
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

There's a story about Geza Andas' recording of the 21st piano concerto. From the story I heard, Anda was horrified that his recording had been debased in such a crude way by being used as the soundtrack for a MOVIE! He contacted DG and, through his lawyer, expressed his displeasure and demanded that this blatant commercialisation cease immediately. He asked his lawyer if this could be grounds for cancelling his contract.

However, the record had entered the Top 20 in various countries around the world which resulted in Anda receiving a huge royalty cheque! His next contact with DG was to ask if his recordings of OTHER Mozart concerti could be considered!

My favourite is Mitsuko Uchida with the ECO under Jeffrey Tait which was the first cd I ever bought. The magic of that recording has never left me. And the disc plays as well as the day I bought it over 30 years ago!

                            And so it should!

I don't know the Tate/Uchida Mozarts PCs, but I do know they are very highly acclaimed...

I bet you can even remember where you bought it....!
My first CD was Maria Callas arias, from HMV Oxford St.... about 30 years ago!

Now that IS a good question! It must have been the HMV shop in Princes Street which, sadly, is now closed. The shop went through a few refits but I can still remember drooling over these new fangled discs.

The Uchida Mozart CDs often surface in charity shops so I'll keep an eye open for you.
