    Indeed.

    The piano's not bad, either.

I've been comparing Immerseel with Viviana Sofronitsky in a variety of WAM's concertos. As mentioned previously in this thread, Immerseel seems somewhat soft-focused - both the fortepiano and the orchestra - and rather recessed, while Sofronitsky is more front and centre, vividly filled with energy. Does the difference spring from the instruments used, or the recording balance, or the performances? Perhaps all of the above.

I rather think that Sofronitsky's cycle has been overlooked by many. I've come to enjoy it a lot.

... good to hear this. I'm a fan too - and I share your view that she's been somewhat overlooked.

Another recycling job when there are so many other Mozart piano concertos and thousands of other works to consider.

And we all know what they'll call the concerto.

Strange that a great concerto which nobody can forget still bears the name of a terrible film which nobody (mercifully) can remember.

Money talks, it seems. That still from the film, on the cover of Geza Anda's LP, has a lot to answer for. I'm glad I got to know the work from Schnabel's 78s, before that association began.

I do take your point - I saw the film at the time (aged 18) and can barely remember it. However, it may not be a masterpiece but, 55 years later, I don't recall it being "terrible", though I was somewhat surprised to see doyen critic, Roger Ebert, gave it four stars, his top rating. https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/elvira-madigan-1967
