Not a great fan of Chopin, but it is this Naxos version of the concertos that sits on my shelves and occasionally gets a spin!
I must say, I haven't played the 'Naxos' for a year or two, but it is a pretty robust reading - plenty of oomph - which I think Chopin's orchestral writing often needs to maintain its interest for the listener, and which is lacking in some recordings...

but what do I know! Just my own meandering thoughts - certainly not knowledge-based facts!

As well as the excellent Vasary another fine performance is the Pires/Krivine .

The Naxos is the only performance I knowingly own! Had it since about 1990. I hope I don’t ‘need’ another purchase!

I guess I listen to it once every 2/3 year, most.

I think that a Venn diagram of our CD collections would show a considerable overlap region, Beefy!
As may one of our playing habits (though I haven't recently had a Quattro overload!).

I’m intrigued, please say a little more!

Perhaps/probably the wrong expression: I really meant the sort of music you choose to mention that you have been listening to (British, American, Baroque).
So it's interests more than the when and where.
I didn't mean that we put on the same pieces while we're doing the ironing or the cooking.
              That would be spooky!

                Spooky, but entertaining!!

I like the Venn diagram idea. It would be so interesting to map out all of us that way (quite impossible!). Of course it’s all mapped out narratively.

Ah, yes - Tamas Vasary - a fine Chopin exponent - in the concertos as well as solo piano works. A pity that he seems not to have recorded more than he did...

Apart from the piano concertos on DG (one of their 'budget' sub-brands) there is an excellent CD on ASV of him directing and playing Chopin's piano concerto no. 2 and Schumann's A minor concerto with the Northern Sinfonia of England.... worth a hearing IMVHO

This is becoming juicy - does it mean you may have some recordings that you unknowingly own? We may all have a few hidden gems lurking on the shelves deserving of a dust-down....

I think they might plump for a modern interpreter, Ingrid Fliter or Nicolai Lugansky, say.

In my case, the 'unknowingly owned' ones are usually BBC Music Magazine ones that I have forgotten about.
Just checked: Chopin PC1 does not feature.

There is also a very satisfying set of Rachmaninov concertos from the 1970s on DG that IGI's comparative review of the Lisitsa recordings directed me to .

By the way I do not think that there is a Pires/Previn a coupling of the DG recordings she made seems to suggest that there is but I think it is the Krivine with the Previn No 2

This is a very endearing account:

Much prefer Chopin solo piano to his concertos, but this is a good version. An 1848 Pleyel, I think. Much preferable to the heavy-handed Ax [1851 Erard]/OAE/Mackerras, which is the only other HIPP performance I know.
I am especially fond of the Ax disc.
