I'll be able to judge that in the context of the whole performance.

        (Anyway, whoever mentioned Pedigree Chum?)

There was also a very good disc of Vivaldi Lute Concertos with Jakob Lindberg and the Drottningholm Ensemble, released on BIS at around the same time as their Four Seasons.

Now then! It will be irresistable - like the Stokowski Fireworks Music (complete with recorded firework explosions) or the Beecham Messiah; so camp they're brilliant!

Meanwhile, the maestro expresses his appreciation of Mr Esfahani's sense of humour:

Does anybody else like the recording by Suzanne Lautenbacher with Jorg Faerber and the Wurttemberg Chamber Orchestra, or is it just the nostalgia influencing me?

I expect it would be more of a death stare:

I once had this recording on LP but replaced it with the Hogwood when period instrument recordings became the norm. At the time it was recorded Lautenbacher was well-regarded in these concerti but when I began to hear HIP performances it seemed heavy going, so I replaced it. Suzanne Lautenbacher made a number of recordings for Vox/ Turnabout (I still have her Bartók 2/ Contrasts) but I have no idea whether any of them are easily available or even if they have made it to CD.

Mine arrived this morning, so I was able to listen to it as four complete works, without comparing it with anything else and without having to endure sneers.

                              Simply superb music making.
