I've been listening a few times recently to the Alessandrini version and it has renewed my interest in these pieces (thanks to BeefO for that recommendation). Why is the soloist in this version not mentioned in the list? Because it's a different soloist from Alessandrini's ensemble for each concerto. This probably helps in focusing on the music and not the soloist's virtuosity. That's my two cents' worth.

Ein Alp, this is dedication beyond the call of duty! You have my congratulations, and also my sympathy, how long must it have taken to compile that list? I also have sympathy for the poor reviewer, is it conceivable that they will actually listen to all those performances?

This is one I shall miss, I already have lots of versions and am not interested in any more.

Bravo EA - but I imagine life is made even harder by the fact that many versions may now be limited to a double CD set of all 12 concertos . The Harnoncourts version seems to be so available .

My favourites are - Schneiderhan though he seems to have much less zip now the HIPP versions have arrived , Standage/Pinnock, Carmignola/Marcon and Alessandrini mentioned above .

Although exhilirating, I think Alessandrini & Co. would be seen as too extreme for a BaL choice. I expect Esfahani would plump for, say, Il Giardino Armonico, which is still powerful and thrilling, but more 'reined in' than the Alessandrini. Interestingly, listening to the two side-by-side (the earlier Armonico (1994) probably an influence on the later Alessandrini (2008)), it sometimes sounds like they are playing different pieces of music e.g. the first movement of Winter.

Funny how perceptions differ. I love both Il Giardino Armonico’s performance and the Alessandrini, but find the former more ‘extreme’ than the latter. Some of the movements are quite broad, too (Alessandrini).

On the Baroque thread in post #523, I said "Gloriously HIPP, but none of that "anything you can play, we can play faster" that one senses in some performances (mentioning no names). In fact some of the movements are broader than many performances."

I feel minded to revisit both in full on Qobuz in light of your comments. I'll see if I concur.
