I had to check, but probably too many versions here (though in slight mitigation several of them were bought for the Duruflé coupling, in its different incarnations).

    Corydon Singers/ECO/Best
    King's Cambridge/ECO/Cleobury
    Ambrosian Singers/Philharmonia/Davis
    St John's Cambridge/ASMF/Guest
    King's Cambridge/ECO/Ledger
    Schola Cantorum of Oxford/Oxford Camerata/Summerly
    King's Cambridge/NPO/Willcocks

    And the BBC MM one:

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Any thoughts on the 1888, 1893 and 1900 versions? It will certainly give the reviewer something to talk about, and I hope that separate recommendations of the 1893 and 1900 scores will be offered.

I should read earlier posts before opening my mouth. Ardcarp has already posted in some detail.

              Somewhere in Europe, perhaps...?

                      - I have the earlier Herreweghe in the big "Sacred Music" Box. It was the one that prevented me from being absolutely certain that Summerly was "the favourite" (I'm also relieved that you didn't find Summerly a little too "English", which was a concern of mine.)

I also have the BBC MusMag version, the Matthew Best/Corydon, and the Cluytens. I shall listen for enjoyment/information rather than with an idea of buying another version (although Cali's recommendation is causing my debit card to itch).

You really shouldn't hesitate. Proper French, to make vindepays happy...

Indeed! Like ferney, I'm not really in the market for another version, but I'll be interested in listening to other 'renditions'.

A bit ... err ... pricey for an under 42min disc

Might think about about the download ... but I'll hesitate a little longer.

... o, I've ordered the five CD set for some £6-49. Don't think that's too pricey...

So have I now! Many thanks, vinty: that's a rather covetable box. (Not sure about the "Transcriptions", but the rest ... )
