Just as Bryn said.......though many now believe that good quality non-lossless files (called "lossy", such as mp3) are no worse, audibly speaking, from lossless files (such as FLAC). The theory is that the data which is absent in a lossy file is not actually hearable (by humans, anyway), so it doesn't matter if it is there or not. Many disagree. You find some who swear blind they can hear the difference; others who say they can't. Personally, I can't tell the difference between high quality mp3 and lossless files. If there is an audible difference, it is really quite a subtle matter: people say it is something in the "atmosphere" of the sound, or only takes effect on particular sounds (such as cymbals). Anyway, I wouldn't want to bet anything valuable in a blind test.

Lossy files, incidentally, are usually cheaper to buy and take up much less space on a computer. That's why they exist.

You lost me there! (Perhaps best not explain).

Anyway, I'm impressed with all this talk about erotic deliveries on a Saturday. Is that something to do with Amazon Prime?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I listened to a bit of BaL at work whilst I was on break. I did find her delivery very exciting.

Thanks for the explanation - I think!

I'm with Alison on this one. A very fine BAL. No problem whatsoever with the presenter's voice or delivery.

It's just very frustrating that I can't seem to be able to go out and buy the CD at a reasonable price.

... ah, but if you get the box of 10 CDs at about £35 - well, I think £3-50 is a 'reasonable price' for each CD. Because, be honest, you're going to want all the Haydn they've done

Go to your local Anglican Church, get to know the ladies who do the flowers and I guarantee one of them will speak like Caroline!!

I would certainly second that. My Mosaiques recordings - Haydn and Mozart - remain among my all-time favourites. I bought them one by one, largely through birthdays etc, and still treasure them. With them on the shelf, I don't feel the need to keep adding in this repertoire.

A real pity they haven't done more - especially recently. They still seem to be active, but don't release very much, as far as I can tell. I know they have done a little Schubert and the Opus 18 Beethoven and one or two others, but nothing in the past few years. I was really hoping they were going to do the late Beethoven quartets - they certainly performed them live to great acclaim - but no recording, sadly.

I'd love to, Alison but we're all heathens here in Scotland...

Actually, I have to rewind every 90 seconds! I'm always missing or mis-hearing BaL presenters. Doesn't happen so much with other programmes
