    Looking forward to this one.

I have a wonderful disc of Op. 77/1 & 77/2 plus String Quartet in D minor Op. 103 by Quatuor Mosaïques. I don't envisage adding another recording to my collection.

I double your collection, Beefie - Aeolians and Lindsays - sp plenty of scope for further investments.

The Kodaly Quartet on Naxos. Great playing, and a superb recording, soundwise....

        Possibly a much under-considered recording?

Not in my view. I had a collection of the Kodaly recordings, but once I heard the Lindsays and the Mosaiques I realised that they were just too matter-of-fact and got rid of the lot.

Maybe I would be of the same view if I heard the L or the M recordings - that's the great thing with so many recordings available - always the opportunities to make new discoveries, and find new favourites.....

... Festetics and Mosaiques probably my go-to ones here, tho' the Angeles, Buchberger, and Takacs are all interesting.

I also very much like (not yet on Alpie's list... ) the Smithson -

... and of course looking forward to the London Haydn Qtt when they get round to op 77...

I like the Angeles and Takacs in this quartet though in truth I have rarely heard any recording or performance of this superb work which I haven't enjoyed.

A good historical version is the old pre-war Pro Arte quartet, available in a remastering from Pristine Classical.

I have and greatly enjoy both the Buchbergers and the Kodalys (and if anybody else is thinking of getting rid of a complete set of these splendid performances and recordings, I'd be delighted to welcome such a set into my collection!) Looking forward to this BaL - IIRC, Caroline Gill has done some very perceptive reviews in the past

I'm with rauschwerk on this, but I'm hanging on to the 7 or 8 Kodaly Haydn CDs that I have.

Btw, Quatuor Mosaïques - 3 Late String Quartets, Op. 77 is available on Qobuz as a 16 Bit CD quality download for just £5.49.

I saw the Quatuor Mosaïques box set available on Amazon for £18 in 2013 and ummed and ahhed, then the price went up to £50 - it's currently £33.

Ditto, though I note that the Smithson disc is currently out of the catalogue.

I think this must have been the first HIP version - I have it on my shelves:
