Ah, so the 1980 Taddei/Karajan from Vienna did not get to the short list. That's the only recording of this work I have. It will have to do.

I listened to sections of them during the week. The later Karajan starts badly, too slow and not really exciting enough but it does have some lovely sections later. I still love the Toscanini and in the RCA edition it sounds ok although obviously not modern, it's amazing how the ear adjusts.
