Not sure if it was even mentioned. I bought it when it came out for Taddei's singing. I also have the earlier Karajan, Davis, Toscanini and Humberg versions. The last was bought after good reviews but it really isn't comparable with the others.

I listened to sections of them during the week. The later Karajan starts badly, too slow and not really exciting enough but it does have some lovely sections later. I still love the Toscanini and in the RCA edition it sounds ok although obviously not modern, it's amazing how the ear adjusts.

Without wishing to "howl" you down, I disagree; as a one-off on this anniversary, I found it entirely apt and a refreshing change.

And there's no finer Music than Shakespeare's verse.

At the risk of being howled down, I do wonder if 'Record Review' is really the forum for this discussion of recordings of Shakespeare. Yes, I appreciate that it's recordings but, for me, I want music on Saturday morning.

Well, they are records, Radio 3 does encompass spoken drama and often broadcasts Shakespeare plays, and poetry, so it wouldn't seem too inappropriate.

I've long thought that the Philharmonia/Karajan is the only totally successful recording of this opera in stereo. It's the only version I own and I see no reason to own another.

Well if they are having a discussion in Stratford, I suppose it's difficult to be looking at the DVD to discuss it, is this another reason to favour the prerecorded programme?
