Oh dear, poor old Fred - this is the only BAL I can remember where I fast-forwarded through large parts of the extracts...
I just can't stand this stuff. Sorry to fans... though interesting to see I'm not alone
It's also the only BAL which has resulted in one fewer CD on my shelves - I found I had the Terfel/Hickox/Chandos record, which I suppose I must have bought in an attempt to cure my Delius allergy. No wonder it didn't work - the extract sounded awful. It's been removed from the collection for immediate disposal (If anyone wants it free of charge, one careful owner, extremely low mileage
- PM me).
On a positive note - the only version illustrated which I found remotely attractive was the Hampson/Mackerras: TH's singing almost overcame my antipathy, and I didn't fast forward through those extracts. Fantastic singing, it seemed to me. I think the Decca 'Delius Edition' on Apple Music, which includes this reading, may receive a visit from me.

for the début of this reviewer - I listened to all his sections of the survey, and really appreciated his stress on not losing the 'current' - the 'drift' - the momentum of the work (that plodding Elder recording...
). But I didn't get on at all with what I heard of his final selection, I'd have a problem with the soloist's pronunciation, I think ("flowing reevers").

Looking forward to next week !
