Oh dear, poor old Fred - this is the only BAL I can remember where I fast-forwarded through large parts of the extracts... I just can't stand this stuff. Sorry to fans... though interesting to see I'm not alone

It's also the only BAL which has resulted in one fewer CD on my shelves - I found I had the Terfel/Hickox/Chandos record, which I suppose I must have bought in an attempt to cure my Delius allergy. No wonder it didn't work - the extract sounded awful. It's been removed from the collection for immediate disposal (If anyone wants it free of charge, one careful owner, extremely low mileage - PM me).

On a positive note - the only version illustrated which I found remotely attractive was the Hampson/Mackerras: TH's singing almost overcame my antipathy, and I didn't fast forward through those extracts. Fantastic singing, it seemed to me. I think the Decca 'Delius Edition' on Apple Music, which includes this reading, may receive a visit from me.

Also - a for the début of this reviewer - I listened to all his sections of the survey, and really appreciated his stress on not losing the 'current' - the 'drift' - the momentum of the work (that plodding Elder recording... ). But I didn't get on at all with what I heard of his final selection, I'd have a problem with the soloist's pronunciation, I think ("flowing reevers").

Looking forward to next week !

It's also on their 30th Anniversary box where I got to know it - a fine recording with the young Bryn Terfel but I'm not sure it's destined to become a favourite work.

No, Ferney. He has only one collection, so it doesn't involve number.

                  So fewer is more?

                      I like Delius.

And I wish you'd wait until I've corrected my mistakes before replying.

(I wondered why Sea Drift was attracting so many posts …)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I imagine Alpie has an uncountable number of CDs!

Although “one fewer” is used some of the time, “one less” is the most common.
                              Surely "the more common"?
