The justly famed Haitink recording has appeared in various re-masterings, including even an SACD version. I would not be surprised to see it turn up on Blu-ray Audio.

I have the Sony (big box) one, along with Giulini, Haitink, and Martinon.

Yes, I have the DG. I think I had the Sony at some point.

I'm pretty sure I had/have this (a very long time ago, IIRC). It says Cleveland and New Philharmonia. I don't know who does what on this CD!

I have that very set! (Well - my own copy of it, that is - I'm not the cause of your not being able to find your copy!) The print on the CD itself, and on the label on the back of the jewel case both say that it is the New Phil used for all CD1 (La Mer, the Nocturnes, Printemps and the Clarinet Rhapsody (and for Jeux and the Faune's siesta on CD2. I had (like Pulci) just "remembered" the Cleveland Orch being used throughout. (Did Boulez ever work with the New/Not-New-anymore Phil again?)

Damn fine performances, wha'evva.

Perhaps Monteux and co. were trying to recreate the version given at the works first performance. The public had to wait some 10 months or so to hear a performance including Sirènes, or perhaps there was no chorus available at the time of the recording.

More likely is that Monteux, along with many others, thought Sirènes, which the composer tinkered with more than just about anything else he wrote, not up to scratch.

He recorded his own Livre pour cordes with the strings of the New Philharmonia though this did puzzle me when I got the second hand Sony CD as there was nothing else recorded by them together.

I bought Jonathan Swain's 2003 recommendation (Plasson, nla) but quickly sold it when I discovered that the chorus sang flat! Having since acquired Previn, Giulini and Haitink, I'm not sure that I want another version.

I might just see about that Previn version! I have the Abbado and Haitink
