The "Et incarnatus est" in the Credo is a trio for soprano and two tenors and is very beautiful. This prompted me to check the sleeve notes for my Sawallisch recording to find that only Francisco Ariaza is credited for the Mass. I assume that Peter Schreier who sings the Offertorium D963 on the same disc is the second tenor there.

I have realised that the Sawallisch recording I have been referring to (EMI with Bavarian forces) is not the one listed above (with Dresden Staatskapelle). I am also not sure which one was the runner-up in the previous BaL recommendation from 1995, referred to above by cincinnatus.

I got hold of an earlier version of the Weil set - a pity I didn't wait, the new incarnation flagged up by gurnemanz has a much nicer picture on the cover than mine.

Hello Gurnemanz. As far as I can ascertain the EMI recording by Sawallisch was the runner-up in 1995.

Hello EA. I have just checked on Presto Classical's website and the EMI recording by Sawallisch and the Bavarian forces is available as part of a very cheap 11cd set of Schubert's sacred and secular works.

I'm not that well versed in the vestments and iconography of the various Christian trends but that does look rather Orthodox to me. I do prefer it to the later covers though.

                    Hiya maestro,

Yes the Wolfgang Sawallisch set is wonderful. The box set would make a splendid Christmas present.

Thanks Bryn...one of these days I really must learn how to cut and paste a picture into a message on here!

The trick (when using Windoze) is to right-click on the image you want to copy from the Internet, select "Copy Image Location", go to the message you are composing, click on the "Insert Image" icon in the bar at the top of the window, select "From URL" and paste in the link you copied, make sure the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" is unticked, then hit "OK".

Thanks a lot, Bryn...I've noted that and will give it a try one day when I am feeling brave!

What a dreadful start and I can now see why I dislike this format so much. Listen to the first few minutes and notice how long it takes them to make simple points in the conversational format.

Oh dear. 3 minutes into the broadcast and I've switched off already. This seems to me to be the worst kind of "twofer".
