Can you try to read it on your computer? For example, use EAC (Exact Audio Copy) and maybe also set the read speed very low to give it a chance. if you can get that far, then you can burn another new copy. Works sometimes - though I'm not sure if it'll work with a bronzed disc, or even this one.

      Who was the 'winner'?
I highlight the winner of all Bals on the OP, as soon as possible after the broadcasts.

Enjoyed this from DON as usual.
Enlightening comments about the music and performances based in actual observation and demonstration, presented with great clarity.

        Does it for me.

Thank you - I will try that this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

However, I would gladly swap the Reineke for the Hindemith, IMV one of the very best of his 'Gebrauchmusik' pieces.
I invested in the Reinecke piano concertos a couple of years ago (Klaus Hellwig/NDP/Alun Francis) and came to the conclusion that, though not an innovator, he was unnecessarily neglected.

Me too. Only caught up with it today - as usual I was informed and entertained in equal measure by DON (although on repeated listening, I couldn't hear some of the errors and oddities he mentioned).

I found it especially valuable to be hearing the views and analysis of someone who played it with Rampal who in turn had given the première with Poulenc on the piano. I sometimes wonder about the credentials of some of the people who do BAL - here, no question, one degree of separation from the composer is good enough for me.

However I didn't like his final choice -

              - I'd have a listen first, Tony. Seemed all too hurried and soulless to me.

The extract that had me enthralled was the slow movement played by Pahud and Le Sage - that's the one I'm getting.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
