Suk was only mentioned in passing. No comment whatever on either the Ancerl or Neumann recordings.

... or indeed, Kyung Wha Chung's excellent recording, which I have paired with her Elgar violin concerto. It seemed that only a very small handful of recordings were actually played, which when one considers the vast array of recordings, is incredible. All talk and hardly any music......

So what was the point of saying it? Do you ever find yourself commenting 'a male endorsement of a male reading'?

No, no, no. One of the best, even without Suk.

I have but three criticisms to offer re. this BaL. First, I can so no reason that time was wasted repeating the opening section of the Krasner/BBCSO/Webern recording. Second, why was the availability of that recording on YouTube not mentioned. Third, that Kate Molleson having mentioned that she would be considering such as Suk, no such consideration actually appeared. Lost in the editing? Otherwise, I thought it a fair enough survey of what Kate Molleson considered to be the front-runners.

Listened to this BAL today . I think the criticisms are well founded - far too much gushing about the work and what she thinks of it - far too little analysis of the recordings just her personal responses .Also why poor old Suk just ended up being ignored was not explained . Less gushing from her would surely have found the time for an extract .

Just in case anybody wants to add another recording to their collection, the Hoelscher/Wakasugi recording is available to download here.
