Simple. SCO/Mackerras.

Oh dear Alison - a rare instance of discord between us! For some reason, I've just never got on with the Mackerras/SCO recordings - I seem to be the only person on the planet who thinks so.

Or Krips as he was known on the continent. I love his Mozart symphony recordings with the Concertgebouw, phrasing, layering, style, playing and recorded quality seem to have a combined alchemy which sounds just so right to me - in contradistiction to the Mackerras. I don't think Josef K got a look-in on BAL did he?

I'm listening to his recording as I type. Not sure I need another one.

Not much interest here I see. Must admit, listening in the afternoon, I nodded off!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I've tried 3 times to listen to this BAL - nodded off each time! I think I've heard it all, but not necessarily on the same occasion!

Need to stick the podcast on in the car (better not fall asleep a fourth time! )

The SCO /Mackerras Mozart recordings for Linn are marvellous and if you like them so are the selected Mozart piano concertos that Brendel re-recorded with Mackerras - vastly superior to my ears to Marriner's bland accompaniments on Brendel's full set .
