        My particular problem is that once the Bizet CD is put in the player, it whirrs bizarrely then the display tells me that it is
        'not known'. The disc doesn't even launch.

          Just a thought: I wonder if the disc is a copy burnt from a download? If the disc is not fully Phillips Red Book CD then older players may not recognise it. Computer disc drives are more tolerant and will play almost anything in my experience.

                Yes, indeed it was the ‘Record of the Week’ immediately after this BAL - F-XR credited comme si de rien n’était

                The Minkowski Arlésienne issue also completely passed me by on its release - I don’t recognise the cover art at all - and as this is probably my favourite music by Bizet, I’m looking forward to having a listen (and also to the Barcelona/Gonzalez performance). Useful BAL
