Incidentally, the recording of Appalachian Spring on the MTT CD was Geoffrey Smith's first choice in November 2000.

Deservedly so, imho, but be warned: it's Copland's 1954 orchestration of the original 13-piece orchestra version, so comes in at about 35 minutes rather than 25 minutes.
Well worth investigating.

Why was it not made clear that only the Four Dance Episodes were being considered, not recordings of the complete score? Surely both should have been discussed and a recommendation given for both. Many of the recordings listed on Presto are for a piano reduction, so there was not a vast number of recordings of the original to play!

I think it was, with words to the effect that since they were what were by far the most commonly recorded items, that's what the programme would concentrate on.
