Very interesting and probably not surprising for you, seeing that Manze was originally from the Hogwood stable.

      Nicholas Kenyon - yawn

I suspect he is bound to pick a HIPP version ! The others might as well not turn up !!!

      Thus spake Barbirollians…

Definitely worth a listen imo. And I shall search out the Manze

I preferred Mackerras until today; the Manze has blown me away. The spontaneity of a live performance done well makes the difference?

No in fact I usually enjoy his conducting - just not this performance on the evidence of the clips . I’ll have to try the whole thing.

Just wondering if anyone knows which Bruggen recording Kenyon was playing extracts from (and which was essentially his period choice). Given his disparaging comments about early period recordings of Mozart 40, I assume that it was the 2010 Glossa recording and not the 1985 Philips?

.... I don't know - in addition to the 2010 recording I have two earlier ones, from 1985 and 1991. We really should have been told.

Symphonic tensions higher with Mackerras, I suggest, who probes deeper and achieves the more distinctive fuller toned playing from his SCO.
I find the Jupiter on Manze’s disc the more involving performance.

Yes, that is a serious omission and surprising from the normally assiduous Kenyon.

If Manze won - even with a modern instrument orchestra - I take that as HIPP.
